Serving

Serving Others

Christ has no hands but ours. We are called to serve others.

Throughout the Bible, we learn that God wants us to care for others and work for justice. The people of Christ Church seek to be the heart and hands of Jesus by aligning our passions and resources with organizations that work to meet the needs of our neighbors, locally and internationally.

Food Justice

Enough to eat: that's a human right. We regularly serve at Shalom Farms and gather donations for FeedMore. We support them in the fight for food justice because no one should go hungry.

Shelter & Support

Everyone deserves safe, affordable housing. We proudly support our mission partners at CARITAS, Habitat for Humanity, and ACTS  in securing housing for those in need.  Our friends at ReEstablish Richmond help refugees establish roots in our community.

Education

Supporting Communities in Schools, Hope for Humanity, and Forward Foundation, we're working to ensure quality education for children of all ages in Short Pump and all the way to South Sudan.

Healthcare

Healthy communities are made of healthy people. CrossOver healthcare clinic here in Richmond and Light from Light's Lespwa Timoun clinic in Haiti provide healthcare to the most vulnerable and marginalized populations.

You Can Make a Difference! Get Involved

Christ Church sponsors hands-on serving opportunities and supply drives throughout the year so we can care for others in Christ's name. We harvest food at Shalom Farms, volunteer at Henry L. Marsh Elementary School, build homes with Habitat for Humanity, and much more. We welcome you to participate as you are able! The best way to stay engaged in our missions efforts is through our weekly eNews and the newsfeed in Realm, our online gathering place. We use both platforms to share opportunities for you to give back to our community. You can read the latest news here and contact staff to be added to Realm.

The Five Marks of Mission

“Mission is really making us all aware of the incredible love that God has for all of us. It says things like: you don’t have to earn God’s love. God loves you, period. Everything flows from there." - Desmond Tutu

The Five Marks of Mission, adopted by the General Convention in 2009, offer a framework for mission and ministry work. Christ Church strives to consider: in what ways are we hitting the marks? Recyling, undertaking social justice work, donating to FeedMore, building with Habitat for Humanity, and many other missions enable the Five Marks of Mission to shine through.

What are the Five Marks of Mission?

TELL

To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom

TEACH

To teach, baptize and nurture new believers

TEND

To respond to human need by loving service

TRANSFORM

To seek to transform unjust structures of society

TREASURE

To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth

Episcopal Relief & Development

Episcopal Relief & Development is the compassionate response of The Episcopal Church to human suffering in the world. Hearing God’s call to seek and serve Christ in all persons and to respect the dignity of every human being, Episcopal Relief & Development serves to bring together the generosity of Episcopalians and others with the needs of the world. Serving the Church

We invite you to explore the many opportunities to serve within the church and in our larger community. Our hope is that you can engage your God-given gifts and talents while serving others in meaningful ways. There are many opportunities to serve as a disciple. Come, be the church with us!

WORSHIP MINISTRIES
Christ Church is a work of the people! Countless lay servants dedicate their time and talents to create a warm, welcoming, holy space each week. Prayerfully consider how you might serve. Options include altar guild, AV team, chalice-bearers, acolytes, ushers, flower guild, welcome & fellowship team, choir, musicians, and more. It takes the hands of many servants in the House of God and we are grateful for your services.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY
We welcome your help with special events like the Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School or to serve on the Children's Ministry Team

YOUTH MINISTRY
We'd love to have you assist with Youth Groups, help chaperone retreats and mission trips, or serve on the Youth Ministry Team.

BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS
You can
provide leadership on the planning team or assist with the upkeep of our campus.
